Edmond, Oklahoma is a mid-sized city in Oklahoma County. It is a part of the Oklahoma City metropolitan area and is the fifth-largest city in the state. The city is home to approximately 94,428 people, according to the 2020 census. It is located in central Oklahoma.

The city is home to many large employers such as Crest Foods and the University of Central Oklahoma. It is an incredibly diverse community with numerous religious and cultural institutions. Residents have access to 57 Protestant churches, three Catholic churches, six Latter-Saint congregations, one Unitarian Universalist church, and one Islamic mosque. There is also a Baha’i center, Haziratu’l-Quds, which is a religious community for followers of the Baha’i faith.

This Oklahoma city is an excellent choice for families with children. The city is located just north of Oklahoma City and offers plenty of amenities and services for residents. Children can attend any of the city’s public schools, including four high schools. In addition, there are several private schools and Christian academies, making Edmond a safe place to raise children.

The city’s history can be traced back to the 1880s. In the 1890s, the territorial legislature established a “normal” school in the city, which later became the University of Central Oklahoma. The school opened in 1893 and is one of Edmond’s largest employers. In 1911, an interurban railroad was completed, linking Edmond with the state capital. The city also hosted the first Catholic church in the state, St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, which was dedicated on June 24, 1889. The church is still in existence in a different location today.

In 1890, the city had a population of fewer than 2,000. The city grew during the land run, with homesteads being staked in the vicinity of the Santa Fe railroad station. The city’s first plat was prepared by the Seminole Town and Development Company, a newly formed syndicate, and many of the original streets were named after men associated with the Santa Fe railroad and the town syndicate. The city was incorporated in 1889 and the first mayor was elected in May. The census shows that the population was 294 people in 1890.

Edmond has many unique attractions. One of the most popular attractions is the Armstrong Auditorium, which plays host to the Russian National Ballet and the Vienna Boys Choir. The city also has almost 200 restaurants, ranging from Ethiopian cuisine to homestyle flavors like chicken fried steak. Edmond has some great festivals, including the annual Edmond Art and Music Festival. The town also offers a number of opportunities for outdoor recreation. Arcadia Lake is a popular fishing spot, where guests can fish from a heated dock.

Historically, the town of Edmond has been an agricultural community. In the 1920s, oil booms brought relief to residents. The city’s growth continued into the 1930s. In 1932, the city saw the opening of Ray Deveraux’s jewelry store and Baggerly Funeral Home. These two buildings are still in place today.
